Menoury & Laval
Catherine Menoury & Christian Laval
Catherine Menoury is a French visual artist whose fundamental mediums are video, photography, digital media and installations. Her work consists of deconstructing invisible, infallible and unalterable time. She raises the question of truth in the image and focuses on metamorphosis and evanescence. She studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nîmes, France, the École de Recherche Graphique in Brussels, Belgium, and the Escape Studios Visual Effects Academy in London, UK. Among other projects, she has worked for Belgium’s national opera house La Monnaie and on special effects for feature films. She works closely with German engineer and software developer Christian Laval to create specific software and technologies for their artistic projects. Together they explore new frontiers of expression.
Christian Laval studied electrical and computer engineering at RWTH Aachen University in Germany. He is conducting research into the development of software for music visualisation and new materials. Catherine Menoury and Christian Laval have exhibited their work in museums and galleries in Brussels, Paris, Toulouse, Caen and Rouen, at events such as the Nuit Blanche in Paris, organised by the MACVAL Musée d’Art Contemporain du Val de Marne and the Palais de Tokyo, and the Marseille 2013 European Capital of Culture, as well as at international festivals. They were winners of the La Ronde Rouen art festival in 2022.
Catherine Menoury and Christian Laval live in Brussels, Belgium.
